User Plane – The Root of Customer Experience for Wireless Broadband Data Services

Availability, configuration, usage and throughput issues directly impact customer experience of wireless broadband data services accessed through your network, but how do you know your subscribers are not experiencing such problems?

Can you say exactly why a subscriber’s wireless data service (e.g. FTP access or email communications) is not working? Can you identify improperly configured mobile device types? Can you say which top-ranking HTTP/WAP sites are accessed by your wireless subscribers? If not, perhaps it’s time to think about improving your service prospects by monitoring the user plane.

Nexus Telecom’s Service Payload Analyzer, NexusSPA, is a unique tool that illuminates the User Plane, providing full access to transaction details – for each individual subscriber – for any wireless broadband data service accessed through your network.

Key Benefits

  • Proactive Intelligent Service Monitoring of the user plane; analyze which subscribers are accessing what services from where
  • All-inclusive, detailed accounting of data service transactions per subscriber
  • No need to schedule or plan monitoring jobs
  • Comprehensive insight to terminal device types, their usage and error rates
  • End-to-end customer experience as perceived by your subscribers

Customer Care Support

Monitoring network signaling information will tell you if a connection was established, but all activity in the tunnel between the mobile end-terminal and the services platform remains a mystery – unless you monitor user activities at the User Plane level. With NexusSPA, your Customer Care department can immediately respond to complaints about data services by retrieving a full and detailed account of the subscriber’s activities, further imparting to the customer a strong sense of highly prioritized, direct and comprehensive support in restoring data services:

  • HTTP or WAP page access
  • MMS upload and/or download
  • FTP, VoIP and VoD sessions
  • Throughput per context
  • Session Abort reasons
  • Download Abort Detections
  • Alarms

End-Terminal Profiling

Access to data sessions is often precluded by faulty endterminal configuration of the respective mobile device. NexusSPA provides answers to help identify the source:

  • What’s the ranking and distribution of end-terminal types used by subscribers?
  • Which device types are most likely to perform poorly in terms of accessing certain data services?

NexusSPA - An Investigative Look into the User Plane

A Technical Marvel

The secret of NexusSPA’s unique ability to open up the User Plane in such detail lies in its use of sophisticated high speed probes, which monitor the transaction data over Gi/Gn interfaces. Cleverly processing and correlating the transaction data with the subscriber and end-terminal device type details, NexusSPA generates fully detailed Call Data Records (CDRs), in real-time and in high volume. Reporting and browser modules then assume further analysis and imaging tasks.
